About
Back in 2003, I gave a paper at the Symposium Cumanum, “Landscape Synchesis: A Demeter Temple in Latium…”
Turns out it was a big hit. Got published as Chapter Nine in a “hits” collection of three years of Symposia Cumana, Mystic Cults in Magna Graecia, from UT Press. It’s based on field work I did for my Master’s thesis on sacred groves in the ancient world, and involves the guilty conscience of sophist Herodes Atticus, and the dedication of his murdered wife Regilla’s lands along the Almo River to Demeter, Kore, and Nemesis. Oh, and it also describes the discovery in 1993 by yours truly and my best beloved of an initmately-related underground chamber, just to the right of the building in this photograph,
